Customer Challenge
Pricing Coach initially operated on a legacy infrastructure composed of scattered and independently managed servers, which posed several operational and security risks. The compute resources were underutilized and inconsistently monitored, leading to inefficiencies and increased operational costs.
Their server-based database management lacked scalability and disaster recovery capabilities, with no formal backup strategy in place. Furthermore, the absence of a centralized monitoring system for compute and storage resources made performance analysis and troubleshooting time-consuming and error-prone.
The networking layer was also a challenge; there was a growing demand for secure, scalable, and protocol-based traffic management. However, without a proper load balancing mechanism or modern VPC architecture, application reliability and user experience were at risk. If these challenges were not addressed, the customer would face increasing security threats, operational inefficiencies, higher infrastructure costs, and difficulties in scaling their services across regions.
Partner Solution
Onkatec collaborated closely with Pricing Coach to design and implement a modern, secure, and scalable AWS-based architecture that would resolve all the core challenges while aligning with future growth plans. The primary objective was to centralize management, enhance observability, and optimize infrastructure costs, all while maintaining high availability and security.
To address the legacy compute challenges, we utilized AWS Systems Manager Patch Manager to centrally manage and automate patching across both Windows and Linux workloads. Through extensive workload analysis, right-sizing strategies were applied to ensure that EC2 instances were optimally scaled, leading to improved performance and cost-efficiency.
The database layer was migrated to Amazon RDS, leveraging fully managed services for PostgreSQL. This transition eliminated the administrative overhead of manual database management, provided automated backups, enhanced failover capabilities, and improved data reliability.
For networking and security, a multi-AZ VPC architecture was established to ensure fault tolerance and redundancy. VPN connectivity was configured to allow secure internal communication between on-premises and cloud environments. Additionally, Application Load Balancer (ALB) and Network Load Balancer (NLB) were implemented to manage protocol-based traffic intelligently, distributing load efficiently and reducing latency.
A comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategy was developed and integrated using AWS Backup and Amazon S3, ensuring that all critical workloads had automated and version-controlled backup policies. To enhance observability, Amazon CloudWatch was configured to collect and analyze system metrics, application logs, and set up alarms for proactive incident response.
Finally, to further drive performance and cost optimization, AWS Graviton-based instances were introduced for select workloads, offering better price/performance ratios for compute-intensive operations.
During both pre-implementation and post-deployment phases, Onkatec provided hands-on consulting, architectural validation, and knowledge transfer to the customer’s internal team.
